Leonardo Miraldo

Leonardo Libardi Miraldo is a graduate student at Sao Paulo State University (Botucatu, SP, Brazil) working towards a MS in Plant Protection under the direction of Dra. Regiane C. O. de F. Bueno. He received a BS in Agriculture at University of Sao Paulo (Piracicaba, SP, Brazil). His interest in crop protection, especially entomology, developed from his first internship at Arthropod Resistance Laboratory led by Dr. Celso Omoto. Leonardo current’s research focuses on the host preference and performance of sugarcane aphid, <i>Melanaphis sacchari</i>, alates in sorghum hybrids in the United States. The goal is to provide valuable information for integrated pest management (IPM) based on preference and performance of this pest on sorghum hybrids which differs in plant quality. Leonardo has enjoyed working with sugarcane aphid on sorghum, which became a significant in Kansas since its re-introduction in the US back in 2013. After he graduates in 2020, Leonardo hopes to get an IPM-related job.
